New Gym Layouts
Full badminton layouts for new or newly sanded floors, planned with your basketball, volleyball and pickleball lines on one drawing.

School gyms and community centres
Kitchener Parking Lot Line Painting Pros paints badminton court lines for school gyms, community centres, churches and badminton clubs across Kitchener-Waterloo. Most of our badminton work is indoors, on floors that already carry basketball, volleyball and now pickleball lines.
That makes badminton a planning job as much as a painting job. We map every sport on the floor first, give badminton its own colour, and time the work with your floor refinisher so the lines sit under a fresh coat of finish.
We have run a dedicated line painting business in Waterloo Region since 2015. Our gym layouts follow the BWF Laws of Badminton, the rules Badminton Canada uses, with 40 mm lines on a 13.40 m by 6.10 m doubles court.
What we paint
We handle four kinds of badminton jobs, and three of them happen on gym floors. Each one is planned around the other sports and the floor finish.

Courts fitted between existing lines in a contrasting colour, so a club or school can add badminton without repainting everything.
When a floor is sanded to bare wood, every line goes. We repaint badminton and the other sports before the refinisher's seal and topcoats.
Courts on concrete pads or asphalt for families and clubs, painted with outdoor acrylic in dry, calm weather.
For short-term rentals and tournaments, we can tape courts onto a floor instead of painting, so the lines come up afterwards without damaging the finish.
BWF dimensions
A badminton doubles court is 13.40 m long and 6.10 m wide, and the singles court narrows to 5.18 m. All lines are 40 mm wide and count as part of the area they bound, so a shuttle landing on a line is in.
| Element | Metric | Imperial |
|---|---|---|
| Doubles court | 13.40 m x 6.10 m | 44 ft x 20 ft |
| Singles court width | 5.18 m | 17 ft |
| Side tramline (doubles sideline to singles sideline) | 0.46 m | 1 ft 6 in |
| Net to back boundary line | 6.70 m | 22 ft |
| Short service line from the net | 1.98 m | 6 ft 6 in |
| Doubles long service line, inside the back boundary | 0.76 m | 2 ft 6 in |
| Line width | 40 mm | about 1.5 in |
| Net height | 1.524 m at centre, 1.55 m at the posts | 5 ft at centre, 5 ft 1 in at the posts |
| Court diagonal (squaring check) | 14.72 m | 48 ft 4 in |
| Clear space we plan for | About 2 m beside and behind each court | About 6 ft 6 in |
The centre line runs from each short service line to the back boundary, splitting the service courts, and the net posts stand on the doubles sidelines. The BWF Laws prefer white or yellow lines, which is why most club floors use one of the two.
Floor types
Hardwood, synthetic and outdoor floors each take a different paint and a different sequence. On hardwood, the lines are painted between screening and the final coat of finish, never on top of it.
The refinisher screens the floor, which lightly abrades the old finish so paint can grip. We tape and paint the lines with game line paint chosen to suit their finish, then they apply the topcoat over everything.
Paint and finish must be compatible, so we agree on products with your refinisher before the day. A mismatch can make the finish peel off the lines.
Rubber, polyurethane and vinyl sport floors only accept the line paints their manufacturer approves. We check the floor's maintenance guide first, and taped layouts suit floors that host weekend rentals.
Backyard and park courts use outdoor acrylic on a clean, cured slab. Wind is the real limit outdoors, so most outdoor badminton is recreational and the lines are sized for fun more than competition.

Our process
Gym layouts take five steps, and the first one happens on paper. Drawing every sport before anything is taped is what keeps a multi-sport floor readable.
We measure the floor, walls, doors, bleachers and existing lines, and note where net sleeves or floor plates already sit.
We draw badminton, volleyball, basketball and pickleball on one plan with colours and send it to you for approval.
Each court is chalked from a shared baseline and squared with diagonals of 14.72 m, so every court in the row lines up.
Lines are taped at 40 mm and painted in thin coats, so the finish lies flat over them without a raised ridge.
Once the lines are dry, the refinisher applies the topcoat. Their finish cure time, not our paint, sets the reopening date.
Scheduling
The best time to paint badminton lines is during a planned gym shutdown, when the floor is already being screened and recoated. Schools book July and August; churches and community centres often use winter break or a quiet week.
| Window | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Summer shutdown, July and August | School gyms and full floor refinishing | Lines painted between screening and topcoat; reopening set by the finish cure |
| Winter break | Community centres, churches, clubs | Shorter jobs such as adding courts or touching up lines |
| Weekend | Taped layouts and small repaints | Taped courts are playable the same day |
| Any time of year | Indoor gyms generally | Indoor work is not limited by the outdoor paint season, as long as the floor is above 10 C |
Many school floors are screened and recoated every summer, so adding badminton then costs only our layout and painting time. Gyms in Waterloo and Guelph are within about 35 minutes of our Kitchener shop.
Pricing
Badminton lines on a gym floor cost $250 to $450 per court before HST, painted or taped. Most gyms book several courts at once, which keeps the per-court price near the low end.
Our line painting price guide lists court prices for every sport.

FAQ
Athletic directors, facility managers and club organizers ask these questions most.
White or yellow is standard, and the BWF Laws prefer those two. On a multi-sport floor, pick whichever of the two no other sport uses.
They can share the outer boundary, since both courts are 20 ft by 44 ft, but not the inner lines. The badminton short service line and the pickleball kitchen line are about 15 cm apart, so each needs its own colour.
A single gym of about 18 m by 30 m usually fits three or four courts with sensible clearance. A double gym typically fits six to eight, depending on walls, bleachers and doors.
Taped courts are playable right away. Painted lines are ready once the refinisher's topcoat has cured, which they will confirm.
